    Red Gold

    Hi,

This came into the collection today. I do hope it has investment potential because these red things don't come for free. Like mentioned in the title: almost if they were made from gold

PS: The KM dagger I had already for a few months.

    Regards, Wim

0Very nice. But the tag and the knot aren't realistic combinations imo. The dagger was sold with the tag.
But the tag was removed and not worn in combination with the knot. The knot was added by the wearer after he removed the tag. The combination just isn't logic.

Agreed, but tough to resist adding a quality tag to a minty piece -and nice to see, imho.

For the purists out there here's an unsold grouping left over from a retail outlet. Hanger and knot with price tags.

Congratulations on the beautiful set up Wim! Your dagger is every bit worthy of a tag even if has a portepee because it looks mint

My favorite sword model in gorgeaous condition Barry: congratulations!
I have drooled over that specific model for a long while now but all the ones I've seen for sale were rather beat up (zink fittings if I remember right?) but yours looks great

As a purist myself I can understand your thoughts, Krikke. I also have a nice preserved army without portepee so I can change.

                    That's a gorgeous saber Barry

Lovely dagger! Krikke has a point, but on a minty dagger like this I think it is cool anyway.

While very beautiful ...it still is a composed set.
For the purist when collectors add things it degrades the originality.
Similar to adding an engraved name postwar...but in this case reversable.
An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

Yes composed, but we would be surprised how many things are actually composed in our collection. For instance: for years it was common practice by German dealers to switch worn, cased EK I's, with better looking examples: worn cross out the case, mint one in the case. And this practice was done decade after decade, so you can imagine how many were fixed that way...

I bought the tag in the first place as a collectible on its own and so it goes to my personal files anyway. In fact the dagger is strictly only Nm (it has scratches on the scabbard), so technically not perfect enough to be tagged.

About the portepee issue: I do have a stone mint tagged WKC with the portepee already in place? What could be added later: the tag? The portepee? The dagger itself even shows 100% gilding, even on the carrying rings and not a single scratch so I assume it is unworn...?

Besides that I'm 100% convinced these tags are almost always sold separated in the inner circle of high end dealers. A separated tag brings more $$$$ then when it 's hanging on a dagger. I guess pieces like showed by Barry Brown are ultra rare exceptions and impossible to find or buy by an average collector. They pass hands from advanced collector to high end dealer and back to advanced collector...

Placing it on one line with a post-war engraving is in my opinion a bridge too far

There is no question about it.
