Seppen, your SS and SS-Polizei Degens are wonderful and desirous pieces. But the Police cavalry sabers are a creation of someone and publicized in one of the past "reference" books. As pointed out in the chapter on police blades I wrote for Johnson's Vol. IV, sabers for mounted police after 1936 were the old Prussian artillery saber that continued in use through the 1944 edition of the official Fischer weapons manual, though the Eickhorn police sidearms brochure did indicate a plain nickle hilted saber available for use. I believe I discussed the same in the police side arms chapter of Wittmann's book too. When you think about it, the SS-Polizei Degen hilt is was never designed to be used on a curve blade. It would be an unnatural fit to the hand.

Thanks, JoeW and frog prince for your thoughts and references. I thought long and hard before buying the two police cavalry swords which came complete with their saddle hangers. After I had bought them my only reference points were Johnsons book vol 5 page 203 which shows a NCO version of my type of sword. Also, I did see on Bill Sheas site probably about seven years ago a pair of these swords, again an officer and a NCO type. These two sightings of my type of sword are the only times I have seen anything like my swords. I had actually bought mine some 15 years earlier in Germany while I was working there so was quite pleased to see others.it does not prove anything but my two swords are certainly put together very well, neat pointed finishing to tang end, good tight fit of grip to blade. SS acceptance stamps on Eickhorn hilt and standard police type scabbard throat and only on police scabbard throat on the Holler.Holding them does not feel awkward, blades are standard army type, quite slim and not heavily curved. My thoughts are perhaps they tried them out but did not continue with them. Anyway, I think they are lovely and I am happy to own them. Thanks everyone.
