Tan scabbard and British webbing frog

    Gents,

I don't usually post here but I got this Kar 98k bayo with a tan scabbard and webbing frog. I posted it at the "Equipment produced with captured material" thread. I discovered the webbing material is British, dated 1943. I would like your opinion about the tan painted scabbard, as I had never seen one before. I guess it might be late war Dunkelgelb cammo...but I would like to know your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

No idea? Anyone has an extra, non matching bayo from the same producer E. Pack & Sohn. The scabbard is stamped S/177G s/n 9240 a . It would be better than the one it has, an S/172 s/n 599 J.

Personally i dont like the web frog, strange stiching on backside. Strange button. Anyway it could be a custom production there in the area from a capture item.b.r.Andy

            hello Andy,

Certainly strange because it was produced out of some British straps. Please see the link in my first post. What I am interested is in your opinion about the tan painted scabbard. I had never seen one and I would like to know if there are any other around, to compare to mine. If anyone can determine if it could be good...

The color is little darker as normal seen of tan colored items, anyway i would compare the lenght of the part where was added a web frog with a normal german web frog. b.r.Andy

I don't have items painted tan as camo, only factory painted. Anyhow, I'll try to shoot a photo comparing.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean...It is produced of captured material, I don't think it will be standard but I can compere it to a leather frog (I don't have any webbing original)

Yes my english is not the best, as You could see on the tan lack of scabbard there is a texture in the color in upper part of scabbard, there was in previous the real web frog attached, so i asked for measuring how long is the part of scabbard with the web texture in color, and comparing the lenght with normal original german web frog. b.r.Andy

Haw scabbard paint react to aceton test?
                    IMO paintwork looks strange.

I wouldn't dare to test with acetone. Even original paint might be removed with acetone and this paint isn't original to the scabbard but camo. If I had any other item painted tan as camo I wouldn't test either. I have heard of people that ruined original items' paint by trying to remove post war repaints with acetone. (not me). The question would be if period or not?

                        Hi Carles,

Here's a link to mine for comparison which was a woodwork find. Don't know if you can see this on GDC...

Here is Red's bayo. Tan looks different from mine and frog is standard style.
