    Custom SA/SS Dagger Grip

I've managed to make a replacement grip (from a piece of mahogany I had lying around) for my crappy "make-believe" SS dagger replica.

It came out not too bad, so now I'm thinking maybe I'll keep going and do the other fittings in brass, maybe even grind a high carbon blade.

Essentially, I'll end up with a custom made "Swiss Dagger" inspired real knife.

Only thing is, I'm keen on the look of the details such as the eagle and roundel on the 3rd Reich versions - as a jeweller by trade it's the fine details that really interest me. I think they really set the piece off.

So, any suggestions as to what kind of design details could replace the eagle and roundel? Could be custom initials and family crest I guess?!

    Cheers!

Thanks, not much chance of importing double edged items into New Zealand so it may be a while before I can get on the ladder with a proper SA.

Very nice work indeed! I actually did something similar myself however I bought my grip online as I'm not quite as skilled, A bit of advice though, a bit of leather really hides the gap between the blade and the cross guards. I think it improves the appearance quite a bit, but I guess it's just personal preference. (EG)

I'll try and upload photos of mine at some point.

Thanks.....I've ground my own blade now from high carbon steel, just waiting for the brass fittings to come back from being cast at the foundry.

I would really like to find a good carbon steel blade sometime. It's definitely not something I could make myself currently though so for now I'll have to make do with the blade I got with the replica I bought from Militaria-net. It along with the badges are the only parts I have not already replace however.
