    Original pocket knife

    Hello,
I recently bought this pocket knife.
I don't think it's ww2, but I'm not sure. It is very old and it has the ww2 markings.
    Who can help me?
Is it pre- or post war, or is it a knife of ww2.

The foto's are very bad, because of the flasch. (or how you call that in englisch)
    Greetings,
    Frank

          Frank,

          Nice Gebruder Hartkopf pocket knife.

The double devil trade mark was used on TR era HJ knives and I believe early SA daggers. The same trademark ia also used on postwar civilian cutlery. Gebruder Hartkopf is primarily a drop forge smithy that supplied rough forged blade blanks to the trade. Finished examples of their bayonets(WWI) and knives and daggers(WWII) are scarce. I strongly believe that your pocket knife is postwar production. The reason I say this is twofold. First, the Rostfrei or stainless designation on the blade is more modern. Secondly the pocketknife you show is from a series of knives Hartkopf had on the market in the late 1970s to early 1980s. I bought two single blade folders marked like yours from the Corrado Cutlery Shop in Chicago in 1980. The one I eventually lost looked aged as yours after being carried in my pocket for a few years. The other one I still have,

I believe that the Hartkopf Co. is still doing business in Solingen today. You may want to check with the Chamber of Commerce in Solingen.

          Hope this helps some,

          Tony

              Hello Tony,
Thank you for your excellent and detailed reaktion.

Hartkopf makes indeed still knifes. Look for example at:
              http://www.roedter-messer.de/hartkopf.htm

He isn't original, but atleast it's a very high quality and expensive (compared to my other knifes) knife.
I'll remove hem from my collection to my pocket.

              Thanks again!

              Frank
