    Get a grip?

I just got this dagger in a trade. I am not out any money and feel that I got a great deal. However, the daggers grip is chipped and in a rough state. Should I get a new grip or keep it as is? What does a replacement grip cost anyways? I have seen one at Johnsons site for $90, but wonder if its worth it.

    Thanks,

    JasonS

No makers mark on the blade. Late war I think.

Hi Jason, I think a better option would be to purchase a knot for the dagger. This would partially cover the damaged areas and make the dagger more complete too.

                Cheers, Ade.

Mmmm, yes a knot would spruce it up nicely . I like that idea. I know how much those are and have a source for them right here on our forum. Thanks for the suggestion.

                    Jason,
I agree with adrian, get a knot for it, alot cheaper than a handle.

I'm with Ade & Fritziii...a portepee tied about the grip will conceal most - if not all - of the chipping and keep the dagger original. It would be cheaper to boot.

Post more photo's when you have the knot on the dagger.

                      Best,

I have a portapee for my other Heer daggger. Could you take a look guys and see if I tied it correctly? http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=81137 will get one for this dagger too, maybe not so mint, to match the daggers condition.

                        Thanks,

                          Jason,

You're close...the 'ball' of the portepee should pass under the cord where it comes around the base of the grip. Here's a quick shot of one of mine - hopefully you can tell what I'm talking about:

I think I got it now. That is not as easy to put on as it seems. Thanks for the help.
