I picked up this dagger awhile back and It came as you see here with this strap attatched to It . Ive been debating weather I should leave It on there as acquired or take It off as I don't see what purpose It serves , and what was the strap used for originally ? Don't see any markings on It .

I don't think it served any purpose for the dagger so I think I would remove it.

I'd leave it on it serves no purpose to remove it .it could be original or not to the dagger having been added by the person that brought it back we would never know but what do you gain by removing it .leave it alone ,

Thanks for the additional photos of your dagger, Craig. A beautiful and early piece with an SA-Gruppe stamp to the reverse lower crossguard (sorry that I can't make out the letters) and it looks like this is an 'erased' Röhm Honor Dagger. Very nice indeed!

Looks very much like a heer equipment strap so does not belong to the dagger, its has a cool loooking vert to do the job anyway, nice daggers btw
