Hi Skip, I can get it with portepee and hangers for $500, which sounds fairly priced to me. But I think I will have to sell my K98 though to get it

Hi Matt, I think that the dagger is a nice buy and a very good price with the exchange rate being kind to us Brits
You would not see one listed by a dealer in the UK at this price, which is about £260. I would buy it if I were you.

Hi Matt, that is the problem.
If you have it under valued on the form and it gets lost/stolen, well, you are going to lose out. Can you afford to do that? I have only ever bought smaller priced items and had them declared as a gift. But Lez bought her 1940's Wedding dress from the USA and we got stuffed for £45 import duty (which she should not have to have paid in the first place as it was a vintage secondhand item, but the appeals lark is a pain and we stood the cost)
If you want to take the chance, have it described as "Old Cutlery" and a low value say $25. I would avoid words like "knife or dagger" as this might invite inspection. But some dealers will not do this.
Do a search on Import taxes etc as this issue has been discussed on the forum in the past.
