State of Baden infantry officer sword. Nice personalized blade and what appears to be a monogram on the pommel. Very nice find and scarce too.

can anyone translate what is written on the blade ? And thank you for helping identify what kind of Sword this is. Oh on the handguard there are different dates Stamped into it could that be the battles that the officer was in ?

The numbers on the bottom of the grip would seem to be dates of service in a particular unit, that's a very cool personalization.

At a guess...Georg Isbert to his friend Hans Liebich Rastatt 1880?

                          That is correct

Georg Isbert s.l. (seinem lieben) Hans Liebich Rastatt 1880

In 1880, Georg Isbert gave this sword as a gift to Hans Liebich at the Baden Garrison city of Rastatt.

On the P guard are dates engraved:

                          October 14, 1881

                          January 20, 1889

                          August 18, 1894

There also seems to be a monogram on the top of the Pommel.

The term "Eisenhauer" refers to the better quality of the steel used in the blade.

                          .

I would surmise the dates correspond to his promotions. Rastatt was the garrison command city of the 56th Infantry Brigade of the XIV Army Corps of the Royal PrussianArmy, according to the 1911 Rank List of the Royal Prussian Army. The only Liebich names listed were Oblt or Lt ranks,so I can only assume your man retired by 1911.

Delving a bit deeper, as it is an infantry officers sword, Liebich would have been an officer in the Infantrie-Regiment Markgraf Ludwig Wilhelmina (3.Badisches) Nr.111 as that was the only infantry regiment stationed in Rastatt as part of the 56th Inf Brigade.
