    Recent DLV Dagger Pick-up

    Hi Folks:

I recently picked up a nice DLV dagger with hanger and "capture papers" which was signed off by the 601st Field Artillery Battalion dated 4 January 1945. I got it from the veteran's niece.

Why would the veteran have a capture document signed 4 January 1945....wounded or ?? I would think the end of the war...unless he was wounded or his unit returned sooner or they were "getting ready/prepared". Nice group......

      Agree !

Rarely gets any better than that ( the 'rarely' part is, if it the dirk was named and researchable).

      Great find. Congrats !

I also agree, a really great pick up. My SMF also has an identical 3 piece hanger.

Nice dagger. No problem with capture papers being dated then. Capture papers could be given at any time--1943, 1944, 1945. Many times vets would then mail the item home with the papers. Charlie
