Original late SA dagger produced by Gustav C. Spitzer Solingen (RZM code 7/80) Bnfortunately blade looks cleaned.

I agree that the blade appears to have been cleaned at some point in the distant past, but a more problematic thing is that both crossguards appear to be of the early solid nickel variety, and SA daggers of this late period had plated crossguards. That would render this piece a Frankenstein. This would not be the first time that someone had dis-assembled this dagger...

The scabbard and hanger look quite original...though I wonder whether the hanger has actually spent it's whole life with this set or not, given the condition difference between the lovely and near-mint scabbard and the very well-worn hanger leather? I can't tell from these pix whether the scabbard is anodized or painted, or whether the scabbard hardware is solid or plated -- both questions relative to dating the scabbard -- but the condition of the body finish and the tip ball are excellent.

Hope these thoughts are helpful. Cheers,

        Br. James
