    Unknown (general's) sword?

Are there any sword collectors here?

I would like to know what kind of sword this is?

It has two silver stars added to the knuckle guard, as seen on some Japanese army swords.

    Thanks in advance.

    Unknown Sword

Hi Victorman, nice sword! That crimson grip speaks to me Can you send an unclose picture of the emblem on the upper scabbard fitting please? From a distance it has the resemblance of a possible firemans brigade helmet. This might be a clue to help identify its origin. Best wishes,

    Mat J

      Hi Mat,

Thank you for your quick reply.

Here is the extra picture: looks like a Roman helmet and sword to me... could it be an Italian sword?

      Best regards,

Looks like an American made sword to me. Very close style to Civil War to 1890s officers sword. Could be a US fireman's ceremonial sword. Just my 2 cents. Cool sword....

The grip looks to be tortoise shell. It was used a lot on late 1800's American staff and field swords that were often made by European manufacturers

Thank you all, for the interesting information.

Juoneen and Mister Aurel ,more in particular, have given the correct answer!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

                  Best regards,

                  Herman

As revealed by Mister Aurel, this is a French 3rd Republic (from 1870 until 1940) general's sword.

This one appears to be later period, so it could have belonged to a general defeated by the 3rd Reich in June 1940!

Here is a similar French general's degen, but an earlier production, I believe.

                    Best regards,
