Nice combat bayonet but ...

Hi

This is nice combat bayonet, stamp Berg & Co 1937.
Matching scabbard and serial numbers, but wonder me this number on the hook. This is a 111 , maybe III .
What do you think , this is a post-war repair or trace after a tool or holder ?

Looks like one hundred eleven.What is the ser.#? Appears to be a nice find...not sure what that number is about.

It could be the piece was reworked in war,from this could be the 111 stamped, same nr.should be on bayonet too, or its a inventory number? Do You have better picture of blade and pommel area? the press button looks like painted black, but maybe its only look of the pictures.The screws in grips looks like dissasembled already, i would personally look under grips, when is possible dissmounting, as middle 1937 wood grips were used, but it should be serialed to SN or assembly numbers hidden by grips. b.r.Andy

Maybe the bayonet was renovated during the war ?

As Andy said a rework. The Germans overhauled some bayonets in the 1930's through the early 1940's. Sometimes renumbering parts and sometimes not depending on who and when it was done, with some even being reworked multiple times. With at least one of the plastic grip plates here having a clear image of a later (circa 1940) Waffenamt. FP

As You could see and like was mentioned FP, its a rework with new assembly number 111, the plastic grips are replaced by rework probably, normally should be too restamped with 111. What for acceptance E/WaA is on the grips? Thanks.br.Andy
