    RAD dagger / never seen

    Hello,

    Just find a vet grouping.
Please opinion about this RAD hewer? The size is smaller. I've include one with normal size on the photo for comparaison. All parts are internally marked with the same assembling number "5".
The hanger is a normal size that was cut.

I think all is period here...but have you see another like this?

    Thanks.

                Me too...

Have you a good opinion about it?
I've it in hand & really I think all is OK with this one. Paint on scabbard is period, blade isn't sharpening or shortened...

                Opinion are welcome.

It makes me wonder if it could be a early officer prototype.

Very nice and genuine IMO. If this dagger could talk...

Very interesting looking example. Based on the early maker mark, perhaps a prototype for a leader's hewer, prior to the introduction of the Leader's dagger?

The blade is also different than normal, IMO. The motto is reduced in size and it appears within the enlarged fullered groove instead of on it's own along the blade's obverse. I don't have an explanation for these differences, but the piece has the look of an original to me.

Many thanks for sharing...and I'm always learning!

A picture of a similar dagger can be seen in Johnsons book GERMAN WAR BOOTY.
