Great thread with Vet provenance. Not often we find a NPEA that's this nice.
What was the hammer price at auction ?

      Npea dagger real or fake

Thanks to all for your replies, they were a great help. And I got to meet Ron, where I learned more in 10 minutes of talking to than I had in 2 weeks of "research" on the net. After reading his book, I know now I really did need to get his book. The time and effort he has put into it is staggering. It's good to know that there are still folks out there willing to do the digging and get the history out to the rest of us. It adds so much more to the piece. And he is fun to talk to. As for the hammer price, I guess it's no secret, was 4,000. I know but peanut butter's not just for breakfast anymore. And the history there was just too much to let go. Again thanks all.

You did very well on this dagger, condition-wise, crossguard dedication, pictured in a well known reference book & provenance. Doesn't get better than that.

And, $4,000 is a pretty good price for what you have there.

With Ron's ok, you can sleep very well with no regrets.

            Congrats.

I have always and still believe that a graduation term NPEA Dagger is among the rarest issue daggers of the Third Reich. Those who own my two works on this subject can easily ascertain how many daggers were produced and approximately how many students graduated from each school in the system. The issue numbers and graduation term date makes identification possible. Those marked NPEA Student Daggers tell the story all in their markings. A dagger with so few manufacturers can easily be identified from a reproduction when one has the information necessary to make the call.
Thanks Messer for the kind words. One thing surprised me was the interest generated by this auction in Third Reich daggers. There were many bidders in person and on line, but those attending bought the majority of the edged weapons.
