    Army dagger?

    Hi guys,
A coworker brought this dagger in to work to show me as I collect militaria. I don't collect German and this is the first dagger I've handled.
His father in law brought it home from the war as a souvenir and he was looking to get some information about it and the yes the dreaded value question. He said he's looked online and is just confused by all the information and pricing.
He's not looking to sell it, he just wants to know for curiousity sake and for the family.
Thanks for any help/info you may be able to provide.

Dagger itself is classic original produce by Herder Solingen. But dagger scabbard bands are not Herder. (scabbard has also different type of silver plating) Now some collectors such a combination as legitimate, but I personally prefer matching dagger combination.
Dagger hanger and portepee looks ok to me.

Looks like a mid period (39' to 41') produced Army officers dagger by Richard Abraham Herder. If this is how the dagger came home after the war the scabbard finish mis match could be original from the factory or it could have been replaced by the original owner due to damaged original, or by the Vet in country! Market is a bit soft right now.. I would say $500 to $600 on the value of this set.. Kevin.

Not text book and I'd say $450. On a good day.

For Herder and the period of manufacture, it is text book. Typical mid period manufacture with some nickel finish and some silver plate finish parts, which you tend to see as older parts were used up due to some metals not readily available. With hangers and knot, the value should be $525 for this condition IMO.
