RAD dagger interesting maker + Engraved K98 police dagger- help!

    Hi all,

These were brought to me and were from a vets estate, no idea where the Canadian veteran picked them up but they were stored away for quite some time. I was quite surprised as I have never seen either of these variations, and never at the same time! The k98 dagger is engraved on both sides, with one side reading "Wine, Women and Song" -"Zur brinnerund an mein Dienst" with a crude etching of flowers on one side, and "Wein Weib und Gesann" on the other with a beer stein with the letters "L.K." in it (presumably his initials)

The RAD dagger is engraved on one side and has a interesting maker mark with a horse in the centre. The blade manufacturer reads: Solinger Axt Und Hauerfabrik, with "Arveit adelt" on the blade. Br.194 is stamped on the handle as well as the top part of the scabbard (I am not sure what this means?) Both have some wear- if anyone could help further identify these I would greatly appreciate it!

    Cheers!

Interesting carving on other side of dress bayonet blade, haha. anyway the bad sign is it was sharpened and there is missing locking button in pommel.b.r.Andy
Looks like there is broken blade ? on RAD faschinenmesser, Br 194 could be for Bremen nr.194 or Breslau or location of RAD unit.

      Stuart,
not sure on the bayonet, but as far as RAD the maker is seen on RAD daggers.
The Br. 194 type stamp is also seen at times on these daggers to indicate an inventory and or unit number/location.
Certainly a used piece whether period or post war.

        Stuart:

The RAD, while not in great shape, is a pretty rare maker to find... most of the ones we see were made by Eickhorn. I do not know enough about these to say whether this looks correct or not, but my spider sense tells me that you have a scarce variation on your hands.

The KS98 dress bayonet is in rotten shape. The engraving is not only poor, but it would be hard to prove that it was period. After all, anyone could have engraved this at any time, even last week. It is not a correct period etch pattern and is a very common maker. A curiosity at best.
