    Estand Christmas SA Dagger Concerns

    Hi All,

I saw this Christmas SA dagger posted on the Estand the other day & had some general questions about its veracity. Without going into specifics (to aid fakers), my focus dealt primarily with the maker mark & grip emblem which would appear inappropriate.

Anyone else have issues with it being period?

        Estand Christmas SA Dagger Concerns

Well put Billy!! I also see a major concern here. But as you previously stated, not gonna give the fakers any more ammo. Selling items as period and not knowing is bad. Knowing the item is not period, is inexcusable. Enough damage has already been done in this hobby by fakers. Thank you for posting and possible saving someone a mortgage payment or two.

          Dear friends,

While I completely understand the reasoning behind your responses, WAF is supposed to be a place where people can ask questions of knowledgeable and experienced colleagues and receive solid, reasoned responses to their questions. There is -- or should be -- a teaching opportunity and element in our conversations together, and when one who has tangible information cannot provide that information for fear of the fakers using it to better their fakes, then we all suffer --- IMHO, of course. A sad day for our hobby...

Maker mark should be the smaller logo. Grip emblems on original Christmas
daggers weren't standard types but a variant, this one looks typical for an early SA. The motto details are soft which is attributed to polishing but it could also be to disguise poor detail.

Just pointing out what I believe to be issues with the listed piece.

Can't they have both types of eagles? See this thread...

A prototype dagger with Gau mark on crossguard? it seems strange to me...

                    No opinion as to originality
But the blade looks plated to me which is giving the etch a soft look

I have Christmas daggers, both manufacturers in my collection. As rightly pointed out in each of the manufacturers have features in Eagle, motto and a number of others. Gau mark, is normal, but it should be on certain models and only one type.

In this photo, I can say that just looks like a early dagger SA, too little information and very bad pictures. I can't confidently say that it is bad renovated original (repolished blade replacement sheath or else something), parts dagger or fake. But the fact that a dagger is not okay, though, and price at him a little higher than than the standard SA. I think we will not see best pictures. If someone want buy dagger, it will a lottery, not usually deal, between seller and buyer. I would not buy this dagger for me.

Question: If we know Rohm presented these daggers to his high ranking SA buddies, and we believe there were about 200 of these daggers produced +/- , then why would these daggers have district stamps? We don't like district stamps on SS Himmler Daggers correct? Why should this be different? Den, I saw your daggers on another forum, very nice! Good representation of both eagles that were used. So, since we want to use this forum as a learning tool, I myself who know a little about SA daggers but definitely not as much as most of the members on this forum, please explain to me the "district stamp rule" that we see on presentation daggers that I always thought was a giant red flag. Best wishes, Happy Easter, and Happy Dingus Day on Monday!!

This dagger conforms to the small 'A' dagger in my collection. Not quite the Christmas dagger, which I believe should have a single oval TM, but very early indeed. And, mine does have a district mark.

The extra value of this SA dagger lays solely in the blade: unlike other Christmas SA's it has a standard grip eagle and a standard scabbard.

Unfortunately the script of this "early A" dagger does not appear to be correct: anyway very different from my own Eickhorn Christmas SA dagger.

I am talking about the dagger offered for sale, not John's dagger.

                              Best regards,

                              Victorman
