I'm not sure this beeing fake... I accually like it...
I saw such daggers before. The dagger I saw was an SS dagger tough.
Here's the link to the dagger of Emil Maurice, SS nr. 2

So, these engravings did exist.
Seems that there is a dedication on the back of the upper scabbardfitting.
Can you make out the name that's written on the lower crossguard?
Wait for others to chime in here.

I will relate a humorous story from years ago on another forum. There used to be a seller Oldmarketplace or something like that who used to try and peddle "enhanced" daggers similar to this one all the time. He put one up and I decided to call him on it. The asking price was $5000 and I said I was going to do a "Buy it Now" with the provision he send the dagger to T. Johnson for authentication. I would also send a cashiers check for $5000 to Tom. If Tom authenticated the dagger he'd get the $5000 and I'd get the dagger. If Tom said it was bogus I'd get my $5000 back plus the dagger. I never saw an auction cancelled faster in my life!

These types are also showed in older reference works. I imagine manufacturers like Sauer etc... would make these things. They knew skilled craftsmen who engraved fire arms etc, but who's gonna tell that it was period done before 1945?
Skilled engravers today can make it as easy as back then.
