    Bayonet opinion and information.

    Hi

I just picked this bayonet scabbard and frog up. The frog is dated 1935 and has cut straps. Also under the manufacturer name and date on the frog is a stamp L.B.A. The Bayo and Scabbard ate matched serial #'s.
    I have a few questions?
    1) Is it common for the frog straps to be cut. Looks like it was done a long time ago.
    2) What is the LBA marking on the frog ? Unit? Initials?
    3) Is the bayonet dated 1939? The 39 is on the top of the blade??

Any information on approx. date of manufacture, rarety, etc is appreciated.
    Thank you

Not uncommon to find the hilt retaining strap cut off, just made getting the bayonet out of the scabbard easier.
The LBA marking is a Luftwaffe marking.
39 is the date of the bayonet(1939), and Elite-diamant is a scarce maker.

      Nice pick up.

These type of bayonet frog was produced in early period. (stamp 1935, Al. rivets) Bayonet frogs produced in these period was without strap. But these frog was not provided stability for bayonet, when the solider was moving. So some bayonet frog (like these one) was later reworked by adding the strap. Unfortunately strap for your bayonet frog was lost during the time.

Thank you for the help. Does the Luftwaffe Mark and rarity of the maker increase the value of this set?
          Thanks

39 Elite Diamant is certainly not scarce producer, anyway the complet is nice and matching and the frog is LW marked which is plus.Maybe the securing strap was not added, or was lost, You should preserve the blade and metal parts with oil to stop the rusting. b.r.Andy

I plan to wipe it down with Renaissance Wax. Just looking on ebay, etc it looks live value is $150-200 Is that a reasonable range. I do not plan to sell it, just for my own collection, but wondered on value. Also, the strap was period cut. You can see the remains still in place. I will try to post picture .

Here is a photo of the strap that has been very neatly cut.
