I got this dagger is a trade. I don't know a whole lot about these things, but from what I've been able to research, it's an early Leuco. I think the blade may have been sharpened a bit, not too sure. Any info and even a realistic value would be appreciated.

Hi Dixie,
This piece does appear to be a very early example, made by Leuco for SA-Gruppe Franken. The condition is very nice indeed, including the scabbard; the anodizing is still quite strong and, while there seem to be a couple of small dents in the scabbard body, the tip ball appears to be intact -- which I always like to see! According to the McSARR chart, Leuco rates 7 out of 10 in terms of rarity.
I agree that this piece appears to have been sharpened at one point or another; no way of telling whether this was done during the period or post-war.
Cheers,
Br. James

Br. James,
Thank you for the information.
I do have the original hanger too, but the leather is ripped at the hanging loop. I'm assuming it's pretty much worthless because of that.
What would you estimate the value of this to be? I've tried to do some looking, but prices are all over the map, and I really don't know what to look for.

Well, if you're interested in selling this piece, then it would be nice to offer the original hanger along with the dagger, since they were 'born' together, even though the hanger leather loop has broken through from wear. Just my opinion, of course...
As far as the value is concerned, you alone will know how much you originally paid for this piece, and no one wants to lose money when he makes a sale! I'd check with the big-time dealer websites and see what they're asking for similar fully-erased Röhm pieces. Dealers usually offer daggers by categories that make it easier to search, without having to spend lots of time reading about each and every piece.
Good luck,
Br. James

That's why I never offer pricing opinions, Dixie! But as I said, in the end it is your call, based upon what you originally paid for the item yourself. When I suggest checking the dealers' websites, that may help you in arriving at a price which is more attractive to other collectors which may be lower than what the dealers are asking but higher than you paid yourself. Capitalism über Alles!
Best of luck,
Br. James
