Aside from the hanger, which is very interesting, I am curious about the crossguards. There is no apparent group/gau stamp on the reverse, and the number "80" is stamped on the front. Unless that is gau mark "Bo" and the crossguard has been flipped?

As for the hanger... it may be period but I am skeptical that it is original to the dagger because of the lack of wear on the reverse of the grip.

I would be real careful about removing the hanger. It's easy to break the straps...

I agree with Skyline...in fact, I would not try and remove the hanger assembly at all.

As for this piece being in "untouched condition," Skyline also notice what I did too, that the lower crossguard has been flopped -- a condition which comes from someone taking the dagger apart and not putting it back together correctly. Not quite "untouched..."

                Cheers,

                Br. James

                      Nice score

The group stamp is BO (Bayerische Ostmark) and is on the wrong side of the grip ... which can happen. Not a big deal IMO.
