Police nco sword/degen with less seen makers mark

    Hi guys,

Was able to buy an Police nco sword/degen this morning with oval makersmark "Paul Weyersberg & Co Solingen" at a fair. First time I saw this makers mark looking like this. Tried to do some research, but I couldn't find a police nco sword with this similar makers mark. Seller asked an honest price, but I didn't buy it. Hope I will not regret it? Thanks for your input and opinions....

Makers mark I am talking about :

You know I don't recall seeing that Mark on anything. If the price was good along with the degen I would have bought it because of the trademark.

Come on guys, 76 vieuws and only one opinion.......thank you Dale.

There must be here some more Police sword/degen (Paul Weyersberg)-experts.....

I know that Police degens exist with this Weyersberg makers mark :

Searched the past days for the other one, could only find one photo in the section "maker marks" Germandaggers.com and I think it is on a TR-dagger?

I'd suggest you contact Tom Wittmann and get his opinion. He's probably seen and handled more of these then anyone else.

Yes, this type of Paul Weyersberg logo was used in early SA daggers.

Received very fast an answer from Wittmann. From what I can learn from this answer, is that a Police degen with makers mark exist, but that it has not got more value than the ones with an other makers mark.

                  Answer Wittmann:

                  Dear Nicholas,

Thanks for the email regarding the Paul Weyersberg Police Degen. Yes, I have seen this trademark a number of times in the past. Mainly it can be seen on bayonets made for the Postal system. The bayonets were made late, after the war started, and this is probably the case with the Police Degen that you mention. I don't think the mark, though, would add any value to the Degen.

                  Hope this helps.

                  Best,

                  Thomas T. Wittmann
