German Army dagger with engraving. Opinions?

    Hi!

Do you think this dagger is real?
    Is it rare?

    Thanks.

Common wisdom says that eagles on Heers or Lufts should have sprigs of oak leaves under the wings.

While this isn't a 100% rule, I believe in it and haven't yet seen a no sprig eagle that is period.

I believe it is a reproduction. The correct maker mark should just be a z.
This trade mark is known on reproductions. Ron

Agree and while the blade is reproduction again probably from Atwood source rest of dagger appears ok. TPK

I agree with John. Although I don't believe the missing oak leaves beneath the eagle is, in itself, dispositive but the large etched Clemen & Jung maker mark is pretty accurate indicator of fakery. Sorry man.

You don't want a pigeon in a collection of eagles ?

IMO the dagger is a completly fake, Production of Spanish scabbards have a very distinctive pattern formed by the pebbling on the scabbard: this pattern take the form of irregular swirls. : 1no_way:

Bad blade and scabbard for sure.. I don't like any of it! Kevin.

I agree with Weinand, the dagger is an early 1970s Spanish reproduction. However, I want to mention here that the swirl pattern stippling by itself is not an indicator of reproduction if the scabbard base material is steel.
