    Newbie question on Bayonet frog

    We the original bayonet frogs marked and/or dated? Trying to figure out how to ID original frogs.

    In most cases yes, if the bayonet frog label was not "scraped" during wearing.

      Many marks turn invisible due to the fact that many frogs were made with the rough side of the leather out. Stampings just don't show up well on them to begin with then add time, moisture, oils, etc etc.. and a lot of them disappear.

      Best way to tell are materials and construction, every time.

        Agreed, And don't believe for a minute that just becase it's marked or dated, that alone makes it period.

          Thanks for the help. I understand the construction issue, but it takes experience to understand that. Some people can look at it on a table at a gun show from 6' away and already know if it is German, repro or other. I can pick up the piece and study it and still have to make an educated guess.
