    Sa with Rare Hanger.

    Hello all.

I have had this a while but never really researched the hanger.

In fact I have only ever seen three others. Some people say it was for mounted SA members to stop the dagger jumping out. A triple hanger set would do the same job IMO.

So any ideas as to what it was specifically for? I think it was an option offered by a leather frog working company just to be different and earn a few bob. It would certainly look different in wear.

            Hi Frank,

What an absolutely Stunning rare maker SA dagger with great hanger

I,m not to sure what the hanger was specifically used for but this one would keep the dagger very secure when riding a horse of marching imo.

            Regards Mac 66.

Hi Frank,I spoke to you at Chatham about the SA frog, they may be going by Johnsons accoutrements book for SA Wehrmann/Feldherrnhalle,I got the dagger I told you about,I will bring it to Chatham to show you.John (I think they were early and not official, not authorised by the RZM)

                Hello John.

I thought I would post this as i did see a pic of yours and I wanted you to see the differences. The straight top is reminiscent of the NPEA frog.

                See you at Chatham

                    I like that SA dagger!

The hanger however looks like a modified K98 bayonet frog to me. This type of heavy leather is usualy not used for hangers for dress daggers.

                    Best regards,

                    Victorman

I have looked at the hanger and compared it with various K 98 types.

Looking at the pictures this is not a modified bayonet frog.

The hanger is a pattern I have seen on SA daggers. Mostly they are maker marked and/or RZM coded. But this is an original unmessed with example, imho.
