    Interesting S84/98 sawback bayonet

    Hello,
I have got a S84/98 sawback bayonet which I believe was used by police unit in Weimar Republic period (correct me if I am wrong).
Could anyone help me to identify the unit mark? Does it relate to the army unit it belonged to before its service in police?
    Thank you in advance.

It must be not a Weimar stamp, i personally dont believe post WW1 that official units used a Sawback blade, is it normal proofed on blade of spine?

As far as I can see there are no marks on the spine of the blade.

It seems very unlikely that Postwar German Police would be using sawback bayonet. I think it is a regular wartime version.

The marking is made in the form of a Weimar Republic period Wehrmacht marking and not a Police marking. However, it does not meet the proper marking protocols as to size so I don't know what it is. The bayonet is Imperial but has had the pommel reworked by someone and it does not appear to be typical German armorer work.

It would be great if you could refer me to the source of information on the Reichswehr markings and regulations. I would like to identify the unit mark but failed to find such information.
            Many thanks

I dont believe the stamp is correct, 10 kompany of 34 IR, 2 Battalion?, weapons nr.185, anyway the fonts are wrong, and 10 company was not part of 2.battalion.personally dont believe it could be a Weimar stamp as there is sawback still on spine of blade.

Well, similar markings are shown in this thread
I don't see any significant difference in the way the marks are made.

Based on the information Sleepwalker provided in that thread the unit is
Füsilier-Regiment „Königin Viktoria von Schweden“ (Pommersches) Nr. 34.

Yes ,You found it, the stamps are identical, the waffenmeister must made a error with the 2.battalion and 10.company, its not regulation font stamp, same as the stamps is imperial not Weimar like mentioned before. b.r.Andy

So do we have a regular sawback bayonet with the Imperial period markings converted into sidearm for no apparent reason?

I still would like to see more information on the Weimar markings. Any ideas where this information can be found?

                    Many thanks

"German Small Arms Markings" by Joachim Gortz and Don Bryans is another book I find useful.
