Rare dagger maker's attempt at a saber

    Hi guys.

Here's a deluxe Heer saber by a fairly rare dagger maker Rudolf Buchell. Dagger collectors are aware that daggers by this maker are tough to find. This saber is the only one I have seen by this maker in over 45 years of collecting and studying German edged weapons. Has anyone else have one or has seen another one?

    All comments or opinions welcome.

    Enjoy!

    Tony

The quality and craftsmanship compares very favorably with deluxe quality sabers available during the height of craftsmanship that was the hallmark of the Imperial era.

The hand enhansement as well as the fire gilding must really be seen in hand to fully appreciate the craftsmanship. Sorry that the photos do not do it complete justice.

        Tony,

Seeing a sword by Büchel is a first for me as well. Their mark is certainly rare but your sword is a thing of both beauty & workmanship. I've owned a couple of fire bayonets by Büchel but that's it. I did have a chance at a 2nd model Luft dagger but passed it up. I always appreciate seeing the obscure, thanks for sharing it!

            Tony,
I normally don't really get excited by or even look at swords, but this one has me stunned!
You're right that the pictures surely don't do it justice, but I can tell from them the level of detail and skill used on the metalwork.

Congratulations on this find! Maybe I will have to open my eyes more often.
