    Stunning navy dagger

    Hi Guys
A friend of mine has had this dagger over 45 years and finally agreed to sell it to me last week.
These are truly stunning when you see them with the gilding almost completely intact.

A couple more, the knot has been there forever and is very tight so presumably the original owner decided to have the release button to the front.

Very nice dagger! Does the blade have a maker mark? The pommel is clearly made by Eickhorn. The scabbard was made by WKC. I would guess the blade is an Eickhorn. I have seen a few Eickhorn navies with a WKC scabbard.

thanks for the replies, does the fact that the pommel is not WKC detract in anyway or are different maker parts common.

It depends on how much of a purist you are. Normally all parts of a WKC navy dagger are made by WKC. But it certainly isn't impossible that this combination with the EIckhorn pommel is original. It's just not a 'textbook' piece.

Could you send a closeup of the trademark.

No doubt about it - Navys are one of the most beautiful TR daggers.

That is a beautiful example. I own one very similar in type and condition and I love it.

I admit that I'm addicted to textbook daggers too. But "part-daggers" is sometimes a difficult subject . If you take the old Johnson books by hand than you can find pages and pages loaded with copies from old WKC bills where you can see how one manufacturer to another sold thousends of crossguards, pommels, etc...

If every part is in the same condition and has the same patina then it is likely made that way 70 years back.

It is known that Eickhorn and WKC had business dealings with each other.
