    HJ Knife Real or Repro

I bought this in Maryland. The guy I bought it form swore he doesn't sell any fakes and he had some other real stuff there too. The thing is, the knife doesn't have a maker mark or date. Can someone help me here?

I have mixed feelings about this one.The scabbard looks alright, from what I can see.Not having a maker mark but has a motto is strange. Can you post a photo of the blade front and back. The HJ emblem cutout is parallel to the checkered pattern, which is usually a bad sign. The biggest problem I see is the quillion has a casting seam.Could be a parts dagger made up of good and bad parts.

I would not buy it. Almost looks like a lip on that scabbard. But the rivet holes and the finishing on the ricasso and the emblem are not what I would look for in a knife.

P.S. If I had to guess, it is a postwar scout knife that has been re-worked.

Have to agree that this piece has just enough problems that I'd have to pass as well.

                Just curiuos,
Was this guy in Catonsville Maryland? I remember one like this on e-bay last month. I live in MD also and wanted to stop by and see it , (if this is the same knife), but seller refused and said he only sells genuine stuff and didn't have the time. So I passed.

check the diamond and see if it moves when you tap it with your finger, original is attached with two prongs and are loose, most fakes have glued diamonds....

I bought this knife from a guy who lived a couple miles outside of Ocean City. I don't remember the name of the town though. As for the diamond, when I push on it with my thumb it moves a little.

The moving the diamond test does not apply here. The grips have been removed and a diamond real/repro could be pinned in place.
