Can anyone say what the numbers on the shaft of this hunting dagger mean?I was told that it is military numbers.Is it WW2 period?

The dagger is not military nor a 'hunting dagger'.
It is a postwar commercial dirk or daggaer sold to the public.
The numbers on the tang are most likely a pattern number used by the drop forge company to identify a particular blade shape. The "S" on the tang denotes a stainless steel composition before the blade is final finished and polished. The fact that it is stainless steel was reaffirmed when the trademark and the full rostfrei designation was stamped on the finished blade.

It looks to be a 50's to 70's era product commonly advertised in men's and outdoors magazines of that time.
Is the scabbard marked in any way as to country of origin?

One of the few drawbacks of having such a wide gamut of expertise here is that so many dreams bite the dust at the first hurdle. Proudly showing what the vendor claimed to be Hitler's butter knife turns sour when it's identified as M&S picnic set circa 1980. I know, I've had my hopes shattered here a few times.
