Mint Holler Heer Bakelight Handle?

I've been buying out of the house of a very old collector. I normally don't buy daggers but I was impressed by the condition of this one. He had this dagger since the 1960s and the blade was covered in thick grease. I wiped it off with a soft cloth but it seems there is still some residue left. How should I clean it off. The blade looks like new so what should I do to protect it? I have never seen a handle like this before. I feels and smells like bakelight. I'm looking for comments by the dagger experts.

question, why did you disassemble this dagger???looks like it was untouched till you got hold of it ...just wondering .... EC

A very nice dagger but you tied the portepee incorrectly (based on the last photograph).
