        makers mark

Scabbard and fittings appear to be brass

the long hanger has the usual gold washed aluminium fittings on a silk and velvet strap.

          Hi James,
The original, early M 1938 Eickhorn, short strap also looks good.

          Regards

"relic condition" is a bit harsh surely Wim?

blade looks minty and the rest has honest wear.

                cheers, del.

The blade is the only good thing about this dagger.

Everything else is in good or lesser condition.

                  Overall a VG?

                        Thanks folks

Honesty is the best policy. It certainly isn't in the best of condition but it is what it is.

Should I restore the wire or sell it as it is?

JamesT: If it were mine I would definitely replace the grip wire. I don't know from the picture if the existing wire is broken and, in effect, too short to reach both ends of the grip. If so, you might need some new wire. Thats all that really needs to be done - and its easy.

If you are going to sell it, sell it as is. It is not a bad dagger at all. But collectors like pretty blades and all the best that goes with them.
If you improve the dagger yourself, someone is going to raise hell that the dagger has been dicked with. Let the collector that buys this make it into what he wants. You will avoid liability and maybe the recipient will want to leave it as is.
                              Just my two cents.
