    SA dagger

Hi guys, not my field so I ask for some opinions about this Rohm SA dagger.
It is not exactly what I would expect to see (scabbard is repainted, handle restored, eagle messed up...), but I let you judge it.

    Thanks.

Scabbard solid-nickel rings seem a bit strange, especially the upper ones.
(Perhaps a result of rough restoration?)
        Blade is cleaned.

Antonio, I don't like the dedication. IMO, it's a post war add-on to a full ground Rohm. However, see what the other guys say. Sorry.

Here a better picture of the dedication.

So is it a put-togheter dagger with good and fake parts?
                  May I ask you why?
Sorry, this is not my field so I try to understand.

                    Hi Antonio,

This is a difficult piece to analyze, at least for me. It presents itself to be a first-order Röhm SA Honor Dagger awarded to an Altekämpfer in SA-Gruppe Hessen. The piece appears to have been made by Eickhorn, though the maker's mark is faint. And this is where the problem stems from, that one or more previous owners of this piece did a lot of damage by trying to clean this dagger. The blade has been roughly buffed, and that has corrupted the blade motto, the maker's mark and possibly the Röhm dedication on the reverse -- though it's now very difficult to tell whether the cleaning was done in order to disguise the later addition of the dedication. The grip appears to have been cleaned in some way, though the effort to remove the grip eagle by picking away at the surrounding hardwood diminishes the piece. The crossguards, too, have been buffed, and that effort has weakened the "He" mark on the lower reverse. And the scabbard -- which is in excellent condition overall -- is missing it's hanger ring...?

Taken together, I wouldn't say that this is "a parts dagger;" it appears to be of one origin. The main problems are with the Röhm dedication, which has been effectively disguised, and with the overall effects of an attempted cleaning which, IMO, was a misguided and poorly-handled effort.

Hope this opinion is helpful to you. Cheers,

                    Br. James
