    Are you sure this is an ss dagger? can you post some more pics?

      IF this is an SS dagger, the markings are likely the SS number of the owner and possibly the name. The "gau" mark on the lower reverse of hte crossguard, visible here, would indicate that this is a parts piece, unless a specific type of model 1936 chained SS dagger.

        If it's an SS, then it must be a Type I chained with a Gau stamp on the crossguard.

          I don't collect Type I becuase I prefer Type II, but i believe these are nontheless original as do many.

              This 300,000+ range is very unusual for a numbered SS dagger. However, this is the SS membership number for Erich Masch, SS No. 311 772 as you can see from his SS-Stammkarte. Contact me for more information.
