    Police marking ???

    Hello

What do you feel about this marking 1. SD - R.IV. It is stamped on the right side of the crossguard of a "narrow pattern" K98.
I have have never seen this kind of marking and I haven't a good feeling with this Police marking....!!!

    Regards
    Alain

      Alain,

I don't care much for this marking. First, it is on the obverse side of the bayonet instead of the reverse as is normal. Second, it has no full stops (periods) in the marking. Third, the marking itself and the size of of the die stamps makes no sense in the police marking system. Three strikes and you are out for me.

        Hi Shupo
Thanks for your comments. Me too I didn't like this marking. This is the way to ruin a good narrow pattern K98 bayonet...!!!!
        Regards
        Alain

Bayonet looks re-blued and grip screws are replaced.

Hello Alain, it would be probably good to dissasemble the piece, the grips could be ok, the blueing on some parts is suspicious.Any additional marking anywhere? The crossguard looks like there was nickeling? the screws are brass or normall steel? thanks.Andy

                Hi Andy
I think this bayonet has some varnish.
