    Help needed with sword

Picked up this sword over the weekend, Its made by Eickhorn has a 1936 type trademark. I know its Dutch, I was wondering if anyone knows why this sword is cut down like this, both the blade and scabbard have been cut down to professional standard and both have been re-plated, There was a knuckle bow but again this has also been removed. The blade is etched yzerhouwer in a scroll ( I think this means quality or high standard but not a 100% sure).
At first thought it may be a salesmans example, but why no knuckle bow.
    Any info much appreciated.

Since the P guard has been removed/altered and the blade and scabbard cut down in this pointed manner I would say it is an example of postwar alteration. I see no reason to remove the guard if it was a salesman sample. Also, salesmen sample swords that I have seen have had a rounded cut to the blade and no scabbard. Look closely at the end of the cut areas and see if they are plated or raw steel. If they are plated it has a chance but otherwise no IMHO.

Example of sabre restated the combat knife.
In the past, and even today, quite a lot of people do not understand the phrase "dress weapons".
So they tried to restated parade edged weapons, to a combat one.
