    German Sword Bayonet ???

Bought this today, not sure what it is though......... Suspected German due to markings, but it is not in my Illustrated History of Bayonets.....
My closest guess would be an S1871, but this is a wide ( 1 5/8 " ) blade. Blade is 18" long, OAL is 23 ". It fits perfectly on a GEW88 I have..... What is it ??

Posted this on GunBoards, a member thought it might be a Wurttemberg m1871 pioneer bayonet, what do you guys think ?

Yes it should be PFM1871 for Wuertemberg, 13 Pioneer Battalion unit marked for Württembergisches Pionier-Bataillon Nr.13 located in Ulm. 2.Company and weapon Nr.xxx Made by F.A.Hermes and accepted in 1897.

      bayonet

There are three variations of the Wurt PFM71 and yours is the third variation. They are a little rarer then the others. Your bayonet is in pretty nice condition. I noticed that the press stud/locking mechanism is missing from it, preventing it from properly locking onto a rifle.

John, the lock button and parts are missing. Cleaned it with some coarse rags and oil, looks pretty nice. If worth much, might sell or trade it off for M! Carbines.

Good oiling the blade will stop the rust, the locking nut, is probably the easiest part to replace, find the scabbard would be other story.
