SMF had a contract with the Luftwaffe, as one of the exclusive supplier.
That's why they get the right to use the Luftwaffe the control stamp.
These fact gave them a certain "advantage", from other manufacturers of parade edged weapons.

While SMF was certainly a major supplier of these daggers, as John said it was not the only one. And the use of "exclusive" could be a problem - except as perhaps a term to describe a supplier such as Heinrich Krieghoff who seems to have been a relatively exclusive supplier for some weapons for the Luftwaffe. With the notable exception of the P. 08 pistols which were made for the most part by another maker having German Army inspection/acceptance marks (Waffenamts). But the Krieghoff examples for the Luftwaffe a relatively small fraction of the total. FP

Luftwaffe Waffenamt acceptance stamp, as seen on this very early 1st pattern Luft' transitional. I believe that this "stickbird" is also seen on the P.08 Krieghoff variation.

With my thanks to both for posting those really nice examples. In keeping with the fact that the P.08 Krieghoff (Lugers) are combat weapons, they were inspected much more vigorously (more or less the same as German Army pistols) with a number of varying stamps in different locations. That said, he is correct and the stamp that Barry Brown posted is seen on the early guns. With the one on later ones more like the one John has pictured. But with a number "2" instead of "5", and the Luftwaffe not having nearly as many Inspectorates as compared to the Army for small arms and the Luftwaffe related items. FP
