k98 BAYONET (ALMOST...) MATCHING - ANY OPINION WILL BE GLAD

Hello experts...I got this bayonet a while back...its a barn find and untouched...
at the first time I was so sure it's a maching one that did not paid any attention to the serial numbers...
now, more than one year later, I've discovered it's not matching but..."almost matching":
    bayonet serial n.: 2369 Q
    scabbard serial n.: 2332 Q
    maker for both: 42 fnj

Now I'm curious to know any opinion and suggestion about!

    Thanks to all in advance

More than likely came from the same unit and just got switched. I do not think it was a big deal back then.

Yeah, I'd say it was made too early to be a factory mis-match.....Bodes

I imagine it is the case. Now you only have to find to what unit it belonged...find the other bayo and switch it back

Nice untouched set from the war, I concur with the gents above that it was probably done in his unit.

It could be missmatched by end of war, when its a bringbacks , i personally dont believe it was mixed by units, anyway a nice piece should be good oiled and gently cleaned to stop rusting.

Hello Andy, its a barn find in Germany...might be a bringbck of course but I still believe that, in any case, it came at least from the same place or the same unit...condition, year, maker and serial # are too similar to be a coincidence I guess...

thanks to all for this interesting thread (inspite a relative common and cheap item)

Yes it should be from same unit, mixed in last days of war probably.
