    Luftwaffe Dagger, original?

    Hello everyone,

I would like your opinions on this dagger, is it 100% original? Why it has an orange handle?

    Thanks!

    Hi Bart,

My immediate reaction to this piece is that the maker's logo is on the wrong side of the blade -- it should be on the reverse and on this piece it is on the obverse, obscured by the eagle crossguard. That means that, at best, someone has taken this piece apart and put it back together incorrectly, with the blade upside-down; at worst it could mean that this is a parts dagger with a replaced blade. And if that is the case, then I have to wonder what else is replaced on this piece?

I would not be interested in having this piece in my collection.

Knowing that I'm not interested in having this item in my collection too. Thank you so much for your answer, Br. James.

I would not worry too much about the blade being that way.
We sometimes see them like this with the maker mark on the front under the swastika.
It is easy enough to turn the blade round by unscrewing the pommel and taking the grip and cross guard off then put it back together the other way.
Be careful not to over tighten the pommel when reassembling it as it can break the grip (as you can see there is a chip already).
The orange grip is quite sought after by collectors and the piece looks like a text book piece by Paul Weyersberg and has the waffenampt mark just above the maker mark.

Besides the chip a nice dagger. Note the hand work on the pommel.

Nice salty example of a early Luft 2nd by Weyersberg. I like the character it has, dont worry about the grip, many trolon grips darkened this much and more!, a desirable trait! Kevin.
