scabbard for sword

Hello, i have found a scabbard for heer sword;
I removed the rust and paint that the owner had redone badly, which brings up the original paint, but only 50% of the original paint is still present here and there.
What i do?
I leave as is ? I repaint it in black ? I use black dyeing or wax stove ?

I would say 50% original paint is better than none at all,if it had been stripped back to bare metal,than a repaint would be ok,but I think most would prefer original paint.John
