    Police bayonet

Can anyone tell me what the markings mean on this police bayonet?

    Hello mate.

they are usually area and unit identification marks. the "L" may denote Leipzig.

I.E. town or district. I have seen them reissued with new marks laid over the old.

that is my understanding and all looks to be legit.

Are we looking at the same bayonet? L.Ka. 325 indicates original issue of this M1929 Prussian police bayonet to the Landjagerei of the Adminstrative District of Kassel . The bayonet had an inventory number of 325. After nationalization of the police in 1936, the bayonet was shortened and the Prussian police star replaced with the new III Reich police eagle. The scabbard should be brown and there is probably an acceptance mark on the back of the bayonet, a *k or *L?

        Yup Joe.

        You're the expert not I.

All I know is the marks denote region and area as you have confirmed.

Thank you very much for the information. I did not find a mark on back side of the blade. See photo. Scabbard is black so must have been changed or dyed I guess.
