    Police Bayonet

    Hello,
I want this very nice police bayonet for discussion set
with respect to the grip eagle and the leather-wearing device.
should more pictures are needed, no problem.
    best regards

the leather shoe acts on the pictures very bright but what he is not,
material of the piece is nickel.
    best regards

The grip eagle appears to be replaced and perhaps a reproduction from what I can see. Is it pinned or glued to the staghorn and is it aluminum? The leather frog appears to be an incorrect reproduction. The bayonet is property marked to the Berlin Schutzpolizei so the frog should be black leather to match the color of the leather scabbard.

Schupo knows his bayonets & I defer to him always. I figured the grip eagle for a replacement (should be the stubby-winged variety for an early bayomet like this) & the frog for being an inappropriate (for color) replacement that was probably modern production but didn't initially catch that the grip eagle was a reproduction.

What gave it away, the flank thickness? Overall detail?

Aside from those two details, a very nicely conditioned Polizei bayonet, hanks for sharing it.

          hello,
the grip eagle is aluminum with polished edges,
the manufacturer of leather shoe has time accessories
          produced for musical instruments.
attacked eagle is not glued but provided with pins.
          best regards

the color of the shoe very deceptive,
in nature quite as dark as the last images.
            best regards

              Jensen,

Thank you for the better detailed photographs. The frog does look better off the bayonet and upon closer inspection. You have it in hand so if it does not smell like brand new leather it might be OK. It is the orange color for a Gendarmerie bayonet however and does not belong on this Schupo bayonet so it is an incorrect replacement.

The grip eagle is more of a problem. It is most certainly a later replacement. It is too wide for the grip and looks like reproductions I have seen before. It is poorly placed and does not cover the hole in the grip left from the Prussian star or a previous eagle. I am afraid I really can't tell if the eagle is an original or a reproduction from your excellent photos.

              I hope this is helpful.

                hello,
yes the leather shoe is a gendarmerie bayonet,
and would also replaces what is known to me, what speaks against whom went to the gendarmerie, a protection policeman later and was replaced leather shoe? of attacked eagle is the variant for the side gun of aluminum I have somewhere here in the forum a ausfürhrung in nickel with the same seen eagles, i must search times.
as written provides the leather shoe on the pictures extremely new from what he is not in nature.
in the German forum, the opinion goes in many directions, from eagles and leather shoe only replaced as a copy or both absolutely okay.
                best regards jens

The eagle is a Alu piece, but i am not expert on this, it looks like proper shortened long police bayonet, the sn would be ok to me,same as the horn grips, but on a shortened piece i would assume a older reshaped grips with holes, and here is in one grip visible a hole for eagle probaly proofed to drill, about the rivets i could not say more are little problematic. the frog is certainly a repro piece, most likely a russian made, many of this are with this crisp oval stamping, You could smell on it, but i believe when used a new leather You should differenciate a old and new products. You will never find a leather frog with so crisp stamping after 70 years of storing anywhere, same the sewing on backside is visible was made by hand not mashinelly, so no way that this would accept a german police in 1938.Same as i believe the frogs of the period were with nice Alu rivets.

                    hello,
According to an informative collector colleague whose opinion I value and trust
is the eagle grabbed an original piece not for this variant of the bayonets.
this variant of the leather shoe is offered in current "e gun auktion",
if the shoe is a copy but would have several pieces to find on the market to be but what I can not watch.
color it is on the pictures extremely bright he is not in nature if you are interested I can gladly resubmit pictures in daylight.
                    best regards
