WW1 German officers sword or earlier Imperial sword with eagle crest, help!

    Hi all,

A friend of mine has a family sword that has been passed down to him, and is unsure exactly what it is. The sword is long and looks like a court sword from the 1800's, however I am unsure of its origins (excuse poor photos). The sword appears to be in great condition aside from where the tip of the leather scabbard is missing, and has a beautiful gold colored knot attached to the handle. I am unsure of the crest, as it looks Austrian or German with a gilted handle. The sword was "found" by his family during WW2.

    Cheers and thanks

The eagle is the German Hohenzollern crest which dates it to 1888-1918. A similar sword is on Ebay at the moment and is described as a Postal Officials.
