Hans Prem - Amberg K98 dress bayonet by W. Höller of Solingen

Hello all,

Here's a beauty I have in my personal collection that I thought I would share with you. I believe the knot is from the 1st Infantry and the frog is marked Carl Hepting & Co. STGT. Feuerbach 1941 on the reverse. Can anyone please shed some light on what Hans Prem of Amberg is exactly, perhaps a retail shop that distributed Höller bayonets? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated and thanks for looking!

according to wikipedia WaA179 belongs to:

jkh Carl Busse Mainz

and STGT is an abbreviation for Stuttgart.

Hans Prem was a distributor of military dress bayonets located in the town of Amberg.

I have also seen this distributor mark on Eickhorn made bayonets.

As John said, Hans Prem was a distributor of bayonets & other military ephemera. I don't believe I've ever seen a Holler bayonet with the Prem mark, from memory the maker marks have all been Eickhorn.

Carl Busse, Mainz was a similar type distributor although I believe Busse dealt widely in leather items. The Busse mark is sometimes seen on RAD Leader dagger hangers. They also distributed fire bayonets, the only bayonets I've seen with the Busse mark.

To 'cut to the chase' I'm afraid that tracking Carl Busse is something of a dead end because the frog is a fake. With some of the "tells" deliberately held back when it was discussed in the link posted below. Regards, Fred

Fred is absolutly correct that the frog is fake along with the markings. Wickipedia is also wrong (once again) in indicating the WaA was related to any particular maker as that was not the purpose of the marking.

So to educate myself, a general rule of thumb is that no dress frog (without additional straps) would have a waffenamt marking on it, correct?

In general, no bayonet frog should have a Waffenamt stamp.
