    1936 SS chained dagger

What are people's opinions on this one? Think it is just muck on the blade. Came from recently deceased war vet. Also came with an odd bayonet- check out the other thread.
    Thanks

Other than the poor condition of the dagger overall. I see nothing wrong with it.

What is this one worth considering its condition? Blade would clean up if someone wanted to- no rust- just muck!!

SA marked cross guard "mi" for Mitte,so consider it a parts Dagger ,apart from the cross guard it looks OK to me.
                  Cheers

The dagger is absolutely perfect including all of the components. These Type I's seen with the Gau stamped lower crossguard, are period...................Period !

I have seen quite a few Type I chained SS daggers with an SA group mark on the crossguard, most of which were either Sa or Mi. What Paul is referring to is the argument over originality. It will probably never fade on this issue, but I believe these pieces to be original. When you think about it... why would anyone swap out a solid nickel crossguard for one from an SA dagger?

On top of that, you can see that this piece is totally untouched, and as green as it gets.

I Totally agree, the whole dagger looks to have always been together and shows an even un cleaned patina through out. I've never owned one of these chained S.S. daggers so i can only comment that apart from the Gaumark it looks 100% totally original.
                            thanks

We've seen these Gau marked SS Chain daggers, and know that they are period.

The purpose behind them, we don't understand. But I can assure you this:

No hard core member of the Allgemeine SS would stand one second, having their chain dagger stamped with a Gau mark, unless it was for a deliberate reason. And the using up of old stock, would not be a good reason in my mind.

And certainly no SS officer would ever tolerate an SA Gau on his bad ass chain, unless there was a special reason for it being there.

This has been my opinion on these pieces, for many years now.
