Police Bajonett ??

Hi all,

was this a Standard police Bajonett ? And what is it worth ? I just got it together with a bunch of other stuff, for example a police Tschako.

The bayonet is the later production with shorter blade probably, the "muschel" on crossguard was broken and the hilt is broken too, the insignia of grip was too removed. The model is not attachable on rifle.The finish is not so great mainly on scabbard. But certainly it has a value. Other members will probably say more. Maker of bayonet is Hoerster the other side was probably distributor in Magdeburg area.

More than likely it has an aluminum hilt & was produced during the 3R as opposed to before it, note the blood groove that extends not all the way to the tip. The missing grip eagle was probably the later era wide-winged variety. What is nice to see is the distributor marking of Hans Grunwald, not a commonly seen mark at all & any Polizei bayonet with a distributor mark is certainly scarce. The cracked hilt is a shame & probably affects value along with the poor finish & missing grip emblem. I would say it's worth roughly $300, give or take.
