SA or SS Dagger Belt Loop

Hi

Was out in the middle of nowhere and found the most slummy flea market ever in a hall. Did not even look but my kid wanted these crappy old toy tanks and he started going through the box and this fell out, I was a bit like you never know when things appear.

These were universal for SS and SA daggers ?

No , not universal . Black for SS/NSKK and Brown for SA , although many NSKK daggers are found with brown hangers for obvious reasons . The key is the rivet . I believe its SS/NSKK cause the rivet looks black from what I can see .

If I may, I'll add yet one more area of questionability to this mix! When the NSKK secured permanent separation from the SA in 1935, the NSKK proceeded to authorize a switch from the color brown to black for neckties, scabbards and leatherware such as belts, cross-straps and boots. NSKK men were encouraged to either purchase a new dagger with a black central section on the scabbard or to repaint theirs themselves, and many NSKK men did so. Keeping in mind that this was the Depression and many NSKK members were out of work, some also decided to change the color of their belts and straps from brown to black by applying black shoe polish over the original brown color. (A few perhaps over-zealous NSKK-Men even went to the trouble of trying to color their brown dagger grips with shoe polish to make them appear black...I have one of those unique, hand-worked pieces in my collection). From the hint of brown color on this connector, the original owner may well have tried to change its original color himself.

As an aside, this change also took place when the Heer and Luftwaffe changed their officer's belt color from brown to black; holster collectors occasionally find an early model brown P.08 or P.38 holster coated with black shoe polish...
