There's some very good useful info here but just to add my two cents worth I have used parcel force 48 in the past when I have sold the odd air rifle.I have never been totally honest the post office staff,just told them is was golf clubs in the package.The main reason they are funny about weapons of any kind is down to post office workers safety.This is what my next door told me-he's a postman.

Regarding blade imports into UK: Recently a collector from Scotland asked a Customs Official about importing a dagger from overseas, and he was told it was not allowed anymore.

Anyone have other info on this ?

The law hasn’t changed as long as the item is packed in such a way as to cause no harm to the general public or postal workers they can still be posted

Nick is correct, as long as the item is well wrapped and ‘safe’ it is fine. To avoid issues at the post office counter I usually describe the items as wall hangings though ‘degen’ also works well as they don’t have a clue what one is.

This morning I tried to find a courier that would accept a Dress Dagger for shipment from the U.K. to the United States without success. I spoke to the guy at the Post office who stated that every parcel flying out of the U.K. is scanned and anything that appears to be on their forbidden list will be removed and either returned to the sender or confiscated and destroyed (this relates to all carriers), there would be no refund or compensation made. This is part of the latest C.A.A. rules.

If your dagger is well wrapped and boxed there should be absolutely no problem sending via the Royal Mail - I have sent loads and NEVER a problem. As has been mentioned countless times it is up to the interpretation of individual post office workers but I do not believe daggers are a banned item so no issues with scanners. Describe it as a wall hanging/costume prop.

I have encountered issues sending via dhl. Again they eventually accepted that the item was not banned but the specific driver picking up from work took objection to the SS symbols so I gave up and used the post office.
